fishers of men

Pondering that phrase the last couple of days. Maybe this is too simplistic and cannon fodder for the intellectual giants amongst us, but I was struck that the fishers used a net, not a “hook, line and sinker”, the fish were gathered, not caught and the fishers went to the fish, not the other way around. The analogy isn’t perfect I know (i.e. the fish are gathered whether they want to be or not), but the first few points sit comfortably enough with me …
