church business

This from today’s SMH online ed. Church spruiks cafe society to spread the word

“The Anglican Diocese of Sydney wants to raise $500 million to convert Sydney. Archbishop Peter Jensen said the initiative, called the New Capital Project, would involve buying land, building churches, renovating the Moore Theological College, churches and other buildings and employing more workers. In the first stage of the project, the diocese will assess the worth of its assets, which the Archbishop estimates to be between $3 billion and $4 billion. The church authorities will decide if they can use those assets to raise between $100 million and $500 million.”

Gee, why not just meet in a local cafe or pub? Go to the people and enter their world. What? And lose control? Egads! Maybe this New Capital Project could have a TV spin off called Church Renovation. Think of the exposure Peter. And maybe Channel 9 could be persuaded to include a church report in their business program “Sunday”. Isn’t that what church is about these days??? Include the Spiritual Index alongside the Dow Jones and watch as shares (i.e. bible-based believers) rise and fall. And stuff the starving who probably need $500 million more than us fat satiated Westerners.

Am feeling particularly cynical this morning. Surprising what insufficient quality sleep can do to a gal’s emotional state.
