“How is your Quiet Time going?” Gosh, how I have come to detest that question.
It’s not asked so much these days, thank goodness, but in my formative teens, it was almost the church-goer’s version of “How are you?” I have tried and failed many times over the years to instill a discipline of reading the Word - getting up at dawn, buying shelf-fulls of study guides, staying up late, nothing seemed to work. Feeling like I had to, that I was obliged to, has been a stumbling block. Feeling like I should. I hate The Shoulds. That, and finding some study guides overwhelming in terms of the time required, and then feeling like a failure because I couldn’t sustain the practice. Not to mention the guilt.
So this is the latest attempt - to read a bit each day. (As FlyLady says, you can do anything for 15 minutes.) When I have longer periods of time available, then I can do a more in depth study. For now, reading a few chapters each morning is manageable. I’m not using a devotional. I’m just reading the Word. Simple really.
